The couple's family reported them missing after they did not arrive at their home in Lubbock, and authorities are concerned due to Gary Lightfoot being oxygen-dependent. The Carson County Sheriff's Office is leading the search and has classified the disappearance as a credible threat to their health and safety

🏑 Getting Ready for Winter: Simple & Smart Home Prep

1. Inspect and Seal Drafty Doors/Windows

    1. Drafts can cause major heat loss β€” sealing gaps keeps your home warmer and reduces energy waste.
    2. Use weather-stripping or caulk to plug leaks; even small cracks can make a big difference.

2. Protect Outdoor Water Fixtures & Pipes

    1. Disconnect hoses and drain exterior faucets to avoid frozen pipes.
    2. Insulate exposed pipes or shut off water to outdoor spigots to prevent bursting in freezing weather.

3. Clean Gutters, Downspouts & Roof Areas

    • Clogged gutters can lead to ice dams, water damage, and leaks once snow/ice melts.
    • Removing debris ensures proper drainage and protects roof integrity.

4. Service Heating Systems & Change Filters

    • A well-maintained furnace or heating device runs more efficiently and safely.
    • Changing air filters improves airflow and can reduce heating costs.

5. Check Attic and Crawlspace for Insulation & Ventilation Issues

    • Proper insulation limits heat loss and prevents cold spots or moisture problems.
    • Closing any unnecessary vents helps maintain consistent interior temperature.

6. Inspect Chimneys, Fireplaces & Vents

    • If you use a fireplace, make sure chimney and vents are clean to reduce fire risk.
    • A safe chimney ensures smoke and carbon monoxide don’t build up inside.

7. Seal Attic Hatches and Basement Doors

    • These are common β€œhidden leaks” β€” sealing them helps keep warm air inside.
    • Even small gaps around hatches or access doors can cause big energy losses.

8. Trim Trees and Clear Branches Near the Roof

    • Snow or ice-laden branches can damage roofs or gutters.
    • Clearing branches reduces risk of damage or leaks.

9. Protect Your Garage and Attached Spaces

    1. Insulate garage doors or seal gaps β€” cold from uninsulated garages can seep into living spaces.
    2. Especially important if you have water lines or living space above/adjacent to the garage.

10. Stock Up Early: Supplies & Emergency Items

    1. Have essentials like snow shovels, salt/grit, pipe-insulation materials, and extra weather-stripping on hand.
    2. Being prepared helps avoid last-minute issues β€” especially if weather hits hard.

These steps aren’t about major renovations β€” just some low-effort, high-impact maintenance.

South Plains Food Bank seeking donations during holiday season

The South Plains Food Bank is calling on the community for volunteers and monetary donations this holiday season as they work to provide meals for thousands of families across 19 counties.

Though the food bank cannot take leftover food, there are several other urgent needs this time of year β€” and community involvement is critical.

Dina Jeffries, CEO of the South Plains Food Bank, emphasized how much local support means to their mission.

β€œWe will continue to fight the good fight, and we’re incredibly grateful to live in a community that not only recognizes the need, but continues to step up. I know that support will keep going,” Jeffries said.

Those interested in helping can sign up to volunteer or make a donation at spfb.org.

Texas Tech Makes History

No. 5 Texas Tech shuts out West Virginia 49-0, up next: rematch with BYU at Big 12 Championship

Lubbock is absolutely lit up. Texas Tech isn’t just heading to the Big 12 Championship β€” they’ve officially made program history. For the first time ever, the Red Raiders have secured their place in the conference title game, ending a drought that stretches all the way back to the league’s start in 1996.

And they didn’t sneak their way in… they stormed their way through.

βœ”οΈ A statement-making 49–0 shutout over West Virginia
βœ”οΈ One of the toughest defensive runs Tech has shown in years
βœ”οΈ A season strong enough to push the Red Raiders into the top five for the first time in over a decade

The pride in this city is electric. Fans who have weathered every high, low, rebuild, and restart are finally seeing a milestone generations have been waiting for. Students, alumni, longtime supporters, and families all get to celebrate this moment together.

This season has reminded the nation that West Texas football is built on grit, heart, and unwavering belief β€” and now, that belief has become history.

Congratulations to the Red Raiders. Lubbock is with you all the way. β€οΈπŸ”΄βš«οΈ

The numbers are still against the Dallas Cowboys. The standings say they're still not among the postseason qualifiers in their conference and probably need help to see games past the first week of January when the playoffs begin. But …

…when you beat the two teams that played in the Super Bowl last season in four days, anything seems possible.

And that's exactly what the Cowboys just did.
