Trivia Question❓

In what year was Texas Tech University founded?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Here’s a clean, polished rewrite for a local newsletter — energetic, concise, and community-focused:

When Texas Tech secured the Big 12 Championship on Saturday, celebrations erupted across Lubbock — and one longtime local business immediately sprang into high gear.

California Tees, the locally owned screen-printing and embroidery shop across from campus, got to work during the game. Owner Madison Baker said she and her team rushed back to the shop at halftime, bought a TV on the way, and monitored the rest of the matchup from inside the print room.

“As soon as that scoreboard was right, we just went for it and started about 3 on the dot,” Baker said.

The shop produced two official championship designs — four total when including youth and women’s cuts — printing more than 2,700 shirts using a single machine. The turnaround required late nights, weekend shifts, and navigating supply delays, including a late-night courier driving in from Dallas with blank shirts.

By Monday, Baker said the team was “over halfway done,” noting that sorting and shipping was the toughest part. California Tees is sending shirts to more than 40 stores across Texas, all via UPS Next Day Air to keep up with demand. At their Lubbock retail partner, customers lined up before doors opened.

“There was tons and tons of spirit — honking, screaming,” Baker said. “It was super fun and definitely pushed us through.”

Due to licensing rules, California Tees cannot sell the championship shirts directly, but the designs are available through participating retailers.

The frenzy marks one of the largest and fastest production runs in the shop’s nearly 50-year history. For Baker, a Texas Tech alumna, it has been a “once-in-a-lifetime” moment.
